Slot Machine Location

Volumes have been set forth on this matter, and the disquiet and disagreement about where the "hot" one armed bandits are located in the casino are still raging – 60 yrs after slot games were first installed in casinos.

The classic rule is that the most favorable slot games were located just inside the main doorway of the casino; so that folks going by would be able to see actual jackpot winners … be challenged to come inside and play. Our opinion is that this is not so anymore.

The great majority of the major casinos these days are grand complexes … it is not possible to see inside from the sidewalk, so there is no longer a reason to have the ‘loose’ slots close-by any of the doors.

Yet another traditional rule is that loose one armed bandits are put on the major aisles inside the casinos, again so that more fun seekers could see winning jackpots and be influenced to play. Importantly though, we find that this also is no longer a universal rule.

What casinos found over the years is that people walking down the busy aisles were frequently on the way to somewhere else. If they played slot machine games at all, they would simply put in their loose change because they happened to be walking by. Win or lose, they would very often not stop to keep playing. And the very last thing a casino wants is for someone to win a jackpot by playing only a few coins and then not stay to put it all back in!

Today, casinos are constantly changing their philosophy about where to place the loose slots.
